World Series Game 7 Draws 51 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a total over 50 million viewers in the US, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball stated this is the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game drew over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and the network’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 various tongues.
